How to send me attachments using Outlook

By default, Microsoft Outlook uses its own method for extended message formatting and attachments, called the Microsoft Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format, or ms-tnef. This is a closed, non-standard format that only Microsoft products can read.

When you send me an email containing attachments while using this format, I will receive a single attachment called ‘winmail.dat’ which I am unable to read.

If you use Microsoft Outlook as your email client, please do not send me email in ‘Rich Text’ format. When you are composing a message, select ‘Plain Text’ from the menu.

You are highly recommended to change the default composing format from ‘Rich Text’ to ‘HTML’. This gives the same extended message formatting and is an actual standard for sending email.

Note: If you were looking at this page in a more modern browser like Mozilla Firefox or Safari, it would look and work better and faster.
